I’ll start with Stateside Baby Shower held back in April...Dan’s parents graciously hosted the party in their wonderful home which accommodated the event so well. We ate tons of our favorite delicious food (Alice's lumpia, Grandma’s pancit, Mrs. Chin’s chinese chicken salad, Kalbi, Almond jello cocktail, JJ Bakery Cake…just to name a few), was entertained by some hilarious games, and most importantly, enjoyed the company of our closest friends and family.
Games included the low key "Identify the Baby Animal" worksheet...to an action-packed "It Takes Two" which required pairs to work together using only one hand each to change a diaper and dress a baby doll...and a tie-breaker of one blindfolded person feeding the partner a bottle of baby food (apparently the "not so yummy" kind)...but clearly the dressing aspect was by far more difficult than expected! Then there was the taste bud twister "Guess the Baby Food" where people had to decipher a variety of 10 baby foods. And of course the "Bottles Up" game for the guys to chug as much juice as possible through slow flow bottles, and without using their hands. Definitely entertaining with many laugh-til-you-cry moments, and everyone was such a good sport!
Later with our friends who hung around late, we played in the "Guess the Girth" of my belly game using string. Howie won, but he may have had an unfair advantage being that he has a talent to push out his belly just as far and be able to measure that! haha.
I made a board for people to guess the actual delivery date, time, height, and weight of Leyna, and whoever is the closest is going to be mailed a prize. There's still time to play, so email us your guess if you'd like!
Opening gifts is always a joy. Let's hope the thank-you cards get to everyone before its time to send out the delivery announcement!
Arigato! Don't forget the parting gift. It was a super fun design project for Ila and I. Thank goodness she hand-wrapped all the chopsticks in a kimono-style pocket for me while I was away in R.I. with Dan! phew! And yay for my cousin's Cricut machine to help me cut out all those tags!
Overall we had a wonderful time before departing to Okinawa. We sure had a packed suitcase dedicated just for Leyna. And now we fast forward to the Okinawa Baby shower...I was tricked into thinking I was being picked up simply for lunch with Tonya and Sasha. Little did I know, we headed straight to Sasha's place for an intimate time with the ladies...enjoying so many yummy home-made finger foods and delicious desserts. Tonya made a big diaper cake (something we couldn't have at the first shower since it'd be so hard to pack!), and once again, gifts are a joy! The great thing is that despite the first shower, everything I got were still things we needed. And on top of it all, everyone (even a few more who couldn't attend) all pitched in for a much larger gift! Boy we are thankful to cross something else off our "to buy" list. Here's some photos with the gals...though I somehow neglected to take a pic together with Sasha who planned everything! Doh!
I was already well satisfied with the afternoon, yet was again surprised when after desserts, we headed out to a popular place nearby for some pampering. Nothing like sipping cold iced tea in comfy recliners and getting oh-so-relaxing foot massages. We all got pedicures, but certainly not ordinary ones. As you can see, the choices for these intricately hand painted designs are endless as we perused huge binders and samples. The gals left to right..Sasha, Bryn, Ginger in the background, and Tonya (our sponsor).
I know feet aren't the greatest things to look at but I couldn't resist capturing the progress of these mini art-pieces. I was amazed they were even able to fit flowers on my all my super tiny toenails. Everyone got very different designs. We were all so happy how they turned out.
A swell way to start the week indeed. Dan of course was pleased that the wives took such good care of me. It's always nice to get pampered...and especially at the start of my 35th week of my growing belly!
